High-Isolation Gate Drive Converters from Murata Support Safer, Faster Switching in High-Voltage Applications

Hoofddorp, Netherlands, 09 June 2026: Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd introduces its MGJ1T series, a new range of 6kVDC isolated 1W surface-mount DC-DC converters. The series is designed for powering high-side and low-side gate drive circuits in demanding inverter, power conversion and motor drive systems.

The MGJ1T series has been developed to address increasing system voltages and switching speeds in applications such as energy storage systems (ESS/BESS), microgrids, EV charging infrastructure, industrial motor drives, and high-voltage power converters. Using Murata’s proprietary block-coil transformer technology and manufactured in the UK, the series delivers enhanced isolation performance, low coupling capacitance and high immunity to fast switching transients, enabling stable operation in high-noise environments.

Configured as a compact 1W solution, the converters support nominal input voltages of 12V, 15V and 24V, and provide regulated dual outputs of +15V/-3V, +15V/-5V and +18V/-2.5V. A key differentiator of the MGJ1T series is its high isolation performance. Each device is 100% production ‘HiPot’ tested to 6kVDC for one second and qualified to the same level for one minute, ensuring robust dielectric strength. The series is recognised to UL62368-1 and provides reinforced insulation with a working voltage of 800Vrms, for applications requiring high levels of protection with a continuous barrier withstand voltage of 2.2kVDC. Internal construction achieves 14mm creepage and clearance, supporting reliable operation in high-voltage environments.

The MGJ1T series is characterised for a common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) greater than 200kV/µs. Combined with ultra-low isolation capacitance of typically 2.5pF, this significantly reduces high-frequency noise coupling across the isolation barrier and supports stable switching in SiC-based designs.

Operating at a switching frequency of approximately 700kHz, the converters achieve a typical ripple and noise of 10mVp-p and efficiencies up to 77%. The series maintains regulation across load conditions and is designed for reliable start-up into capacitive loads, supporting practical gate drive implementations.

The MGJ1T series operates over an extended temperature range from -40°C to +115°C. Reliability has been evaluated through extensive environmental testing, including 1000 temperature cycles between -40°C and +125°C, as well as humidity, vibration, shock and ESD testing in line with JEDEC standards. The series is also characterised for partial discharge performance, ensuring long-term insulation integrity by identifying micro-level insulation defects before they develop into full-scale failure.

Packaged in a compact surface-mount format, the MGJ1T series is compatible with standard Pb-free reflow processes and supports automated assembly. The converters are supplied in tape-and-reel packaging and are designed to meet the requirements of high-density PCB layouts, with optimised thermal performance when used on multi-layer boards.

The MGJ1T series is showcased at PCIM 2026 (Hall 9, Booth 404), taking place from 9–11 June at the Nuremberg Messe in Germany.
