The meeting at the State Secretariat was attended by MinebeaMitsumi Chairman Katsuhiko Yoshida along with senior company executives including Shoji Shishido, Executive Director and Chairman of NMB-Minebea India Pvt Ltd, Daesuke Matsuda, Head of India Business Development Office, Deputy Head Mokka Kyohara, and Sam George. Discussions centred on the progress of the project and future collaboration opportunities following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu government.
As part of the investment, MinebeaMitsumi plans to establish a manufacturing and research & development facility at Mahindra Origins Industrial Park in Tiruvallur. The proposed facility will focus on semiconductor-related precision products including Insulated-Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs), Integrated Circuits (ICs), motors, and sensors. These technologies are widely used in electric vehicles, industrial automation, renewable energy systems, and advanced electronics applications.
The project is expected to strengthen India’s semiconductor and electronics supply chain ecosystem while supporting the country’s broader ambitions of becoming a global manufacturing hub. Tamil Nadu has been actively attracting investments in semiconductor packaging, electronics manufacturing, aerospace, and precision engineering through infrastructure expansion and investor-friendly industrial policies.
The MinebeaMitsumi investment also aligns with the Indian government’s semiconductor and electronics manufacturing initiatives aimed at boosting domestic production and reducing import dependency.
Industry experts believe the proposed facility will further enhance Tamil Nadu’s position as one of India’s leading electronics and semiconductor manufacturing destinations while creating significant opportunities for advanced manufacturing, innovation, and skilled employment in the state.
