Vishay launches true green LEDs in 1.6mm x 0.8mm SMD 0603 ChipLED package

The Optoelectronics group of Vishay Intertechnology Inc of Malvern, PA, USA has launched a new series of true green LEDs in a compact surface-mount 0603 ChipLED package. Measuring 1.6mm by 0.8mm with an ultra-thin 0.55mm profile, the VLMTG1400 series devices utilize the most recent ultrabright indium gallium nitride (InGaN) chip technology to achieve what is claimed to be industry-high luminous intensity up to 2800mcd.

The VLMTG1400 series has luminous intensity of 1200-2800mcd at 20mA drive current, a typical wavelength of 525nm, and forward voltage of 2.75-3.2V. The devices are grouped by luminous intensity, wavelength and forward voltage, and offer a very wide viewing angle of 146°.

Due to their high brightness and small size, the new PCB-based devices are suitable for small-scale products that are expected to work reliably in arduous environments. The LEDs are said to provide designers with increased design-in flexibility and high performance in backlight keypads and displays for navigation systems, cell phones, industrial control systems, and traffic signals and message boards.

Available in 8mm tape, the LEDs are RoHS-compliant, halogen-free, and Vishay Green; compatible with IR-reflow soldering processes; and preconditioned according to JEDEC Level 2a.

Samples and production quantities of the VLMTG1400 series are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders.
