Spintronics AI Semiconductors and CSIR-CEERI Join Hands to Advance Production-Ready GaN Technology in India

MoU will assess the feasibility of an indigenous GaN fabrication facility in India to strengthen domestic GaN capabilities

National, 1st October, 2026: Spintronics AI Semiconductors, a Hyderabad-based company developing indigenous Gallium Nitride (GaN) technologies and products, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI). Under the MoU, the two organisations have formed  a strategic Technology and Design Transfer partnership focused on GaN technology. SpintronicsAI Semiconductors is the first company in India to enter into such a partnership with CSIR-CEERI.

Spintronics AI Semiconductors and CSIR-CEERI will assess the feasibility of establishing an indigenous GaN technology development and fabrication facility in India. It will explore technology and infrastructure requirements, fabrication capabilities and potential pathways to strengthen domestic GaN semiconductor capabilities.

Alongside the assessment, the collaboration will focus on transferring advanced GaN technology and design know-how from research and development into an industry-led semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. CSIR-CEERI, a constituent laboratory of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), brings decades of experience in GaN devices. Spintronics AI Semiconductors brings its capabilities in semiconductor design, engineering and product development. Working closely with CSIR-CEERI, Spintronics AI Semiconductors aims to translate advanced semiconductor research into scalable products and future manufacturing capabilities in India.

GaN is a critical next-generation semiconductor technology with applications across defence and aerospace, space systems, satellite communications, RF communications, advanced telecommunications, power electronics, electric mobility and other high-frequency uses. For India, the partnership marks an important step toward strengthening its capabilities in indigenous GaN technology, semiconductor design and future fab development. The collaboration aligns with the Government of India’s continued encouragement of semiconductor manufacturing and indigenous technology development under the India Semiconductor Mission and the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Raghu Varma, Founder & CEO, SpintronicsAI Semiconductors, said,  “India’s GaN semiconductor market is projected to grow from approximately USD 224 Million in 2026 to nearly USD 1.88 billion by 2033. This initiative can help India capture more of that value domestically by developing and manufacturing GaN products for power, RF, telecom, defence, space and automotive applications, while also creating opportunities for global markets.”

Dr. Manish Mathew, Scientist F, Head, Diamond Research Group, CSIR-CEERI, Pilani, Rajasthan, said, “This collaboration will strengthen India’s indigenous GaN technology ecosystem by leveraging CSIR-CEERI’s more than two decades of experience in GaN devices, along with its expertise in technology development, process know-how, device fabrication, characterization, and skill development, and combining these capabilities with Spintronics AI’s manufacturing and product-development expertise. It will support the development and manufacturing of GaN devices within India, Accelerating technology translation, indigenous semiconductor manufacturing, and contributing to greater semiconductor self-reliance.”

SpintronicsAI Semiconductors envisions the partnership as a foundation for a domestic GaN semiconductor ecosystem. In the long term, the company aims to support the establishment of advanced GaN manufacturing capabilities in India and reduce the country’s dependence on imported technologies.
