An unmanaged switch is a fixed-configuration, plug-and-play Ethernet device that allows network devices to communicate with one another automatically. It operates out of the box without requiring software installation, IP assignment, or manual configuration settings.

Unlike managed switches, unmanaged switches lack advanced management software, preventing users from creating Virtual LANs (VLANs), configuring port security, or setting Quality of Service (QoS) traffic prioritization rules. How Does an Unmanaged Switch Work?

An unmanaged switch functions at Layer 2 (Data Link Layer) of the OSI model. Its primary job is to inspect incoming data frames and route them directly to their intended destination device using MAC addresses.
