Latest solutions demonstrate higher efficiency in a smaller form factor

Frankfurt, Germany – Sept. 29, 2022 – onsemi (Nasdaq: ON), a leader in intelligent power and sensing technologies, will be at the Light + Building Autumn Edition – the international industry event for the lighting and building services industry from October 2 to 6. Located at Messe Frankfurt, technical staff will be at booth F50 in hall 8.0 to showcase the latest innovative lighting solutions from onsemi.

onsemi’s NCL2801 current mode CRM boost PFC control IC is key to the solutions that will be shown this year. This innovative device provides best-in-class total harmonic distortion (THD) over an extended operating range utilizing onsemi’s THD enhancer technique.

Working with PCB transformer manufacturer Itacoil®, onsemi has enhanced NCL2801LED2GEVB, a 150 W deep dimming LED driver evaluation board, without the need for expensive magnetic materials. Compared to the original evaluation board, the footprint of the inductive components has been reduced by 50% and its volume by 64%. The size of the evaluation board has also been reduced by 25% in footprint and 30% in volume. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and electromagnetic interference (EMI) has been enhanced to achieve full compliance with EN50155. Efficiency has also improved, depending on the input voltage and operating power, from 0.3% up to more than 2%.

Another demonstration based on the NCL2801 and NCP13992 – a high performance current mode resonant converter controller that is primarily tailored for half bridge applications – will also be shown at the booth. The board is highly efficient due to its use of current mode LLC resonant operation, allowing 150 W output power to be delivered without the need for any form of heatsinking. The low-profile form factor is achieved using gallium nitride (GaN) technology, allowing efficiencies in excess of 94%, while consuming less than 300 mW when in standby mode.
