TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) announces the expansion of the TDK-Lambda MU series with the introduction of the MU6 modular power supplies. Featuring extremely low acoustic noise and BF-ready medical isolation, the MU6 can provide up to 1200 W with an input of 85 to 264 Vac (derating below 90 Vac) and 1500 W with a 180 to 264 Vac input in a compact footprint. Up to 13 fully isolated output voltages can be easily configured using TDK-Lambda’s online Quick Product Finder. Applications include medical, dental, broadcast, professional audio, test and measurement, and industrial equipment that require a low-profile 41 mm height and/or low audible noise.

The MU6’s patented intelligent fan speed control circuit uses a microcontroller algorithm to monitor not only the temperature of the primary converter, but also each of the individual secondary modules. This enables the fan speed to be accurately adjusted to provide an optimum audible noise level as low as 36 dBA, even with an 80 % load. This low acoustic noise level improves hospital patient comfort and reduces operator fatigue.

An extensive range of modules is available from 150 W to 1008 W, providing continuous coverage from 3.3 V to 105.6 Vdc. Each module includes remote sense and an output good signal as standard. Options for the MU6 include a 5 V/2 A or 12 V/1 A standby voltage, fan fail signal, inhibit and enable for all outputs, AC fail, PMBus™ communication, and current share for configurations requiring parallel operation. Providing enhanced flexibility to meet diverse system requirements and simplify the design process.

The MU6 power supplies deliver efficiencies of up to 94 % meaning less energy is lost as heat, resulting in lower operating temperatures and increased reliability. These units can operate continuously in ambient temperatures ranging from -20 °C to +70 °C, with the load linearly derated to 50 % above 50 °C. The earth leakage current is less than 300 µA, including all tolerances, with a touch current of 100 µA. A market-leading seven-year warranty is provided as standard, delivering unmatched long-term assurance of product reliability and support, and reinforcing the highest standards of customer confidence in the industry.

Similarly to the MU4 series, the MU6 has an input to output isolation of 4000 Vac (2 x MoPP), an input to earth isolation of 1500 Vac (1 x MoPP), and an output to earth isolation of 1500 Vac (1 x MoPP) which is generally required for B and BF rated medical equipment. Output-to-output isolation of 1500 Vac (1 x MoPP) is available for enhanced safety and streamlined medical system design. For more information, please contact Sales.

Safety certification is to IEC/EN 60601-1, ES 60601-1, IEC/EN/CSA/UL 62368-1 with pending approval to IEC/EN 61010-1. The series is CE / UKCA marked to the Low Voltage, EMC and RoHS EU Directives and UK regulations. The models meet EN 55011-B, EN 55032-B radiated and conducted emissions and comply with the EN 60601-1-2:2015 (Edition 4) and EN 61000-4 immunity standards.
