TDK presents new S series inrush current limiters for up to 35 A and 750 J in high-power applications

TDK Corporation (TSE:6762) introduces the new S series inrush current limiters (ICLs), comprising the S30 (ordering code: B57130S0*M000) and S36 (B57136S0*M100) families of NTC thermistors. With maximum steady-state currents of up to 35 A and energy absorption capabilities of up to 750 J, the components are optimized for high-power applications that demand reliable suppression of inrush currents. Typical applications include switch-mode power supplies, frequency converters, photovoltaic inverters, uninterruptible power supplies, and soft-start motors.

The S30 series features disk diameters of 30 mm, 7.5 mm lead spacing, and maximum power handling of 19 W, while the larger S36 series (disk diameters 36 mm; lead spacing 19 mm) extends this capability to 25 W. Both variants are rated for a wide climatic category of 55/170/21 (IEC 60068-1). Depending on type, the components cover resistance values from 2 Ω to 20 Ω, permissible capacitances up to 13,050 µF at 240 V (AC), and continuous current ratings from 10 A to 35 A.

By offering stable performance with low power loss during continuous operation, the new S30 and S36 series enable designers to improve system efficiency to meet higher energy consumption standards. Users will benefit from a lower electricity bill over a conventional solution using fixed power resistors together with relays.

TDK offers a web-based NTC ICL selection tool that gives users recommendations for a suitable NTC ICL for their applications.
