  • Sensor Fusion is the process of merging the data from different sensors to make to make a more precise conceptualization of the object or target.
  • This sensor is allowed to merge all data from several sensors to get a more accurate and complete understanding of the target direction, surroundings & location.
  • This sensor fusion is necessary for resolving the hurdle between different sensors, sensors synchronizing, expecting the positions of the future objects, using the heterogeneous sensors’ strengths, sensor’s malfunction detection & attaining automated driving security requirements.
Sensor Fusion

Working of Fusion Sensor

  • It works by carrying all the inputs of different sensors together to form a single image of the surroundings around a platform.
  • So the output is very accurate as it balances various sensors’ strengths. Its process uses software algorithms to provide a more comprehensive & exact environmental model.
  • This is a complex method of collecting, filtering & aggregating the information of the sensor to maintain the environmental awareness required for smart decision-making.

Applications of Sensor Fusion

  • Sensor fusion is used in GPS & INS where data of these systems can be fused with different techniques.
  • It is used in autonomous vehicles, big science, radar processing, satellite imaging, and 5G beam forming.
  • This is useful, for example, in determining the attitude of an aircraft using low-cost sensor.
  • Sensor fusion is used to combine the redundant information from complementary sensors to obtain a more accurate and reliable representation of the environment.
