  • It is used to measure the amount of light that is scattered by the suspended solids in water.
  • As the amount of TSS ( Total suspended solids) in water increases, then the water’s turbidity level increases.
  • These sensors are in-line analytical instruments designed for continuous measurement of suspended particle concentrations in a wide range of process applications.

How Do We Measure Turbidity?

  • It is commonly measured in Nephelometric Turbidity Units (NTU).
  • Compares by using the nephelometric method of how light is scattered in a water sample against the amount of light scattered in a reference solution.
  • Measurements can also be conducted by use of a Secchi disc or similar instrument.

Application of Turbidity Sensor

  • This sensor is used in river and stream gagging, wastewater and effluent measurements, control instrumentation for settling ponds, sediment transport research, and laboratory measurements.
