Sanand Facility Nears Commercial Chip Output as Make in India Push Deepens

Micron Technology is accelerating its India manufacturing roadmap, bringing its $2.75 billion semiconductor assembly, testing, marking and packaging (ATMP) facility in Sanand, Gujarat closer to full commercial operations by the end of February 2026. The Sanand plant, part of India’s strategic effort to develop a robust semiconductor ecosystem, has already begun pilot production, with Union IT and Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighting the readiness for scaled output. This marks a key milestone in transitioning from project planning to tangible chip production under the Make in India semiconductor initiative.

Vaishnaw told global audiences at the World Economic Forum in Davos that the plant’s launch reinforces India’s place in the global chip value chain and its capability to produce increasingly complex semiconductors. India’s broader ambitions — supported by policy incentives and international partnerships — aim to expand from mature packaging operations toward advanced nodes over the coming decade. With several semiconductor units progressing toward commercial production and ongoing investments in fabrication and design capacities, the Micron Sanand facility stands as a cornerstone of India’s bid to become a major player in global electronics manufacturing.
