Introduction

The 1N4148 is a standard silicon switching diode widely used in electronic circuits. It is known for its fast switching speed, reliability, and low cost.

Due to its dependable performance, it has remained one of the most commonly used signal diodes. The name 1N4148 follows the JEDEC (Joint Electron Device Engineering Council) nomenclature system.

Working Overview

The 1N4148 diode allows current to flow in one direction (forward bias) and blocks current in the reverse direction. It is particularly useful in high-speed switching applications, operating efficiently up to frequencies of about 100 MHz.

Pin Configuration

  • Anode: Positive terminal where current enters
  • Cathode: Negative terminal where current exits

  • Fast switching diode
  • Reverse voltage rating up to 75V (RMS)
  • Peak forward surge current up to 4A
  • Continuous forward current up to 300 mA
  • Reverse recovery time approximately 4–8 ns
