Bengaluru-based deep-tech company QpiAI has opened a dedicated quantum foundry in Karnataka, marking another step towards strengthening India’s capabilities in quantum computing hardware and advanced semiconductor technologies.

The facility is expected to support the development, fabrication and testing of quantum components, helping shorten the development cycle for next-generation quantum systems. The initiative comes as Karnataka seeks to establish itself as a major global hub for quantum technology, backed by investments in research, infrastructure and talent.
Quantum computing relies on fundamentally different principles from conventional computing. Instead of processing information only through binary bits, quantum systems use quantum bits, or qubits, enabling them to tackle certain complex computational problems in ways that could eventually surpass classical systems.
QpiAI has been developing superconducting quantum computing technology and previously unveiled QpiAI-Indus, a 25-qubit quantum computing system. The company’s approach combines quantum hardware with classical high-performance computing and artificial intelligence, targeting applications such as drug discovery, materials science, optimisation and other computationally intensive workloads.
The new foundry is significant because quantum computing requires specialised hardware, fabrication processes, control electronics and cryogenic infrastructure. Developing these capabilities domestically can help reduce dependence on overseas supply chains while enabling Indian researchers and companies to experiment with locally developed technologies.
The development also aligns with the broader objectives of India’s National Quantum Mission, which was approved with an outlay of more than ₹6,000 crore to advance quantum computing, communication, sensing and related technologies.
Karnataka is simultaneously expanding its quantum ambitions. The State government has announced plans for a Quantum City at Hesaraghatta, aimed at bringing together research institutions, companies, startups and skilled professionals to create a larger quantum technology ecosystem.
With dedicated manufacturing infrastructure now emerging alongside quantum research and software capabilities, Bengaluru is positioning itself not merely as a technology-services centre but as a potential base for India’s indigenous quantum hardware industry.
