  • These sensors are the sensors that give an output by sensing the gestures or touch. It offers gesture sensing, proximity detecting, color measuring.

Pin Diagram

Pin Diagram : APDS-9960
  • 1.VL – Optional power to the IR LED if the PS jumper is not connected. Can be 3.0V to 4.5V.
  • 2.GND – to the ground of the circuit used.
  • 3.VCC – Power supply to the board. Can be 2.4V to 3.6V.
  • 4.SDA – I2C Serial Data Address pin. Used to transfer the data through I2C.
  • 5 SCL – I2C Serial Clock Line pin. Provides clock pulse for I2C communication.
  • 6 INT – External Interrupt pin. It is Active LOW during interrupting events.

Features of APDS-9960

Light sensing:

  • four photodiodes in different directions to detect and measure light.
  • RGBC light sensors with UV IR filters
  • RGBC photodiodes are arranged geometrically to provide a uniform angular response.
  • Integrated optical lens collimating LED beam to photodiode sensitivity.

Proximity and Gesturing:

  • Proximity and Gesture sensing with Integrated Visible Block sensing.
  • shield design by minimized proximity cross-talk.

Power:

  • Power consumed is low.
  • 1microampere is used.
  • power similar to sleep mode.

Applications of APDS-9960

  • Display backlight control.
  • color and temperature sensing.
  • Digital camera and touch screen.
