Texas Instruments hosts second year of WiSH program to encourage more women in semiconductors and hardware

About 100 female engineering students from 22 colleges are participating this year to explore a career in the semiconductor industry 

Bengaluru, July 11, 2023: Texas Instruments (TI), a leading semiconductor company, announced it is hosting the second year of the WiSH (Women in Semiconductors and Hardware) initiative, a month-long mentoring program for female engineering students in India. The program is designed to encourage more women to pursue core engineering careers by giving them exposure to and mentoring in the semiconductor and hardware industry. This year, TI is hosting 100 students from 22 colleges, more than twice the number of students over 2022.

“The gender gap in STEM is wide, with only 14% of women making it to the STEM workforce in India. The WiSH program aims to encourage more women to pursue a career in the semiconductor industry, challenge and transform the status quo,” said Santhosh Kumar, president and managing director, Texas Instruments India.

During the month-long program, students are taking part in simulation projects, lab visits, and technical discussions, along with networking sessions with leaders at TI. Students also experience mentoring, through virtual sessions for three weeks and in person at TI’s Bangalore campus during the final week.

“By encouraging female students, earlier in their professional journey, to connect with science and technology and providing them with hands-on experiences, we hope they will develop an aptitude for semiconductors and consider a career in engineering and technology,” Kumar added.

This year, TI received 950 applications to the WiSH program. The initiative encourages second-year women engineering students to apply, enabling them to make informed career decisions early in their lives.
