November 4, 2026 – POLYN Technology, an innovative developer of application-specific neuromorphic analog signal-processing (NASP™) chips, has published a white paper that spells out the advantages of continuous analysis of tire-road grip to improve safety under ever-changing road conditions.
The white paper, titled Knowing Road Grip Before Braking: How Per-Tire Friction Data Can Improve Vehicle Control, makes the case for continuously measuring the Peak Friction Coefficient (PFC) for each tire under various driving conditions before an emergency or control event begins. Such per-tire information can be vital to ABS/EBS, electronic stability control, powertrain management, adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, and automated driving.
“Modern vehicle systems control braking, stability, and traction without directly knowing in advance how much grip is available at each tire. They typically rely on assumed road conditions and begin estimating friction only after braking is activated, losing valuable time that could otherwise be used for more efficient and timely responses,” said Aleksandr Timofeev, Founder and CEO of POLYN. “Our VibroSense™ TMS – which measures tire-road PFC while the vehicle is moving – has been proven in tests to provide the critical information needed for safer braking.”
The benefits of always-on PFC assessment for the various vehicle systems are explored in depth in the white paper, including the important question of system integration with the vehicle. The white paper can be accessed here: https://bit.ly/4BGjAHv
