Disadvantages:

There are some disadvantages of avalanche photodiode which are given below,

• The avalanche photodiode gives a much higher level of noise than a p-n photodiode.
• The avalanche process means that the output is not linear.
• In avalanche photodiode much higher operating voltage may be required.
