Qualcomm-9205-LTE-IoT-ModemQualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, today announced that AT&T has validated its Qualcomm® 9205 LTE multimode modem’s capabilities for the carrier’s LTE-M and NB-IoT networks. AT&T is the first carrier to complete the verification of the industry-leading Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem designed for Internet of Things applications.

Compared to its predecessor, the modem is engineered to reduce power consumption by up to 70% in idle mode, a critical consideration for battery-powered IoT devices that need to operate for 10 years or longer in the field. The Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem is also 50% smaller and 40% more cost-effective than its predecessor – making it ideal for IoT applications requiring low-power, wide-area connectivity in a small form factor device. The Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem is also software-compatible with our prior LPWA LTE IoT solutions which allows module manufacturers to reuse software investments to develop new module solutions.

“With its small form factor, made possible by the fully integrated Power Class 5 amplifier and RF front end, along with its high energy efficient multimode modem and integrated GNSS and cloud SDK offering, the Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem will drive LTE IoT solutions that are powerful and economical with long lasting battery life,” said Vieri Vanghi, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Europe, Inc. “The Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem counts dozens of design wins across more than 27 licensees to date and we are pleased to receive AT&T’s operational network validation to continue to help make the Internet of Things a global reality today.”

“LTE-M and NB-IoT technologies are together laying the groundwork for massive IoT,” said  Cameron Coursey, vice president, Advanced Technical Solutions, AT&T. “With its low cost, high energy efficiency and capabilities for both of our low-power wide-area networks, the Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem will be important in ushering the next wave of global IoT.”
