Diodes-AL3353Plano, Texas – May 2, 2019 – Diodes Incorporated (Nasdaq: DIOD) today introduced the AL3353 ( https://www.diodes.com/part/AL3353 ) LED/LCD 40V max input boost controller, applicable across a wide range of applications where a constant voltage or constant current are required to drive displays and backlights with a dimming ratio of 100:1. It is well suited for use as a backlight driver for LCD TVs, LCD monitors, and flat panel displays, as well as an LED driver for commercial lighting applications.

The AL3353 is a multipurpose boost controller featuring a wide input voltage of 9V to 40V, allowing it to easily adapt to a variety of common supply voltages, such as 12V, 24V, and 36V, without further configuration or loss of efficiency. The AL3353 also includes comprehensive and robust circuit protection based on proprietary technology.

Through the implementation of Diodes’ dynamic linearity compensation technique, which uses an offset cancellation chopping circuit, the AL3353 maintains linearity across temperature and process variations. This patent-pending technology accepts a digital PWM input and converts to an internal analog signal to control the dimming level, which operates from 1% to 100% dimming range, or a 100:1 ratio. This is significantly wider than the dimming range offered by most boost drivers available today targeting this application space.

In addition to a wide input voltage range and excellent dimming capabilities, the AL3353 features extensive protection designed specifically for the target applications. This includes diode and inductor short protection, LED cathode short-to-GND protection, LED-open protection, and power MOSFET overcurrent protection. Other protection features are under-voltage lock-out, output overvoltage and over-temperature protection, and Vout-short protection.

The AL3353 is available in the SO-8 package and priced at $0.12 each in 1000 piece quantities.
