Industry-first 14 kA interrupting rating at 80 VDC in a compact surface-mount package

ROSEMONT, Ill., June16, 2026 – Littelfuse, Inc. (NASDAQ: LFUS), an industrial technology manufacturing company shaping solutions for the safe and efficient transfer of electrical energy, today announced the NANO2® Surface-Mount 708 Series Fuse, the first Littelfuse surface-mount fuse offering a 14,000 A interrupting rating at 80 VDC.

Engineered for next-generation 48 VDC power architectures, the 708 Series addresses the growing protection demands of AI servers, hyperscale data centers, and high-density power distribution systems. As power levels rise and board space shrinks, designers have been forced to rely on oversized, manually installed through-hole or bolt-down fuses. The 708 Series provides a compact, automation-friendly alternative without compromising performance.

The NANO2® 708 Series combines high current ratings (60 A to 200 A) with an industry-leading interrupting rating in a compact surface-mount package. This enables designers to protect circuits exposed to high fault currents while optimizing layout efficiency and enabling fully automated assembly processes.

“With this new fuse—our first Littelfuse surface-mount fuse to deliver a 14,000 A interrupt rating at 80 VDC—we’re giving designers using legacy through-hole or bolt-down solutions a path to transition to surface-mount technology,” said Daniel Wang, Senior Director of Product Management, Over Current–Passives, at Littelfuse. “That shift enables automated manufacturing, improves productivity, and reduces overall system cost.”

Key features and benefits include:

  • Industry-leading interrupting rating: 14 kA at 80 VDC, supporting high fault current environments
  • High current capability: 60 A to 200 A range for demanding power applications
  • Compact surface-mount footprint: Enables space savings and supports high-density designs
  • Automation-ready assembly: Eliminates manual installation associated with legacy fuse formats
  • Robust performance: High pulse resistance and compliance with global safety standards

The 708 Series is designed as supplemental overcurrent protection for circuits where high fault current is anticipated, including power distribution units (PDUs), power shelves, battery backup units (BBUs), and power supply units (PSUs). It is particularly well-suited for AI server clusters, networking equipment, and hyperscale data center infrastructure.

Additional applications include renewable energy systems and battery management systems (BMS), where compact, high-power protection solutions are critical.

The 708 Series is part of a broad Littelfuse portfolio of 48 V protection solutions for data center infrastructure, complementing existing fuse families including the 456, 871, and 881 Series.

NANO²® SMD 708 Series Fuse FAQs

What makes the 708 Series different from existing SMD fuses?
It delivers an industry-leading 14 kA interrupting rating at 80 VDC in a surface-mount form factor. This level of protection was previously only available in larger, through-hole or bolt-down fuses.

Why is a high interrupting rating important in AI data centers?
AI servers and high-density power systems are subject to significant fault-current potential. A high interrupting rating ensures safe interruption without damage to surrounding circuitry.

Can the 708 Series replace existing cartridge or bolt-down fuses?
Yes. It is specifically designed as an alternative for many legacy fuse solutions, enabling reduced size, improved manufacturability, and automated assembly.

How does the surface-mount design benefit manufacturers?
Surface-mount packaging enables automated pick-and-place assembly, reducing labor costs, improving consistency, and increasing production throughput.

Which systems and power architectures are the 708 Series designed for?
The 708 Series is optimized for 48 VDC power architectures commonly used in AI servers, hyperscale data centers, and high-density power distribution systems. It is particularly well-suited for PDUs, PSUs, battery backup units, and other applications where high current and compact design are critical.

When should designers choose the 708 Series over other fuse options?
The 708 Series is ideal when applications require both high current handling and very high interrupting ratings in a compact footprint. It is especially beneficial when replacing oversized through-hole or bolt-down fuses in space-constrained designs or when transitioning to automated surface-mount assembly.
