The new OVMed® cable modules use ultra-thin cables and mini-LED illumination to connect image sensors at the distal tip of endoscopes

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – June 23, 2026 – OMNIVISION, a leading global developer of semiconductor solutions, including advanced digital imaging, analog, and display technology, today announced the availability of several new OVMed® ultra-thin medical-grade LED cable modules for single-use endoscopes. These complete, turnkey solutions include an image sensor with wafer-level optics, illumination, and cabling, and they provide a cost-effective approach for medical endoscope manufacturers seeking a faster time to market.

The new modules support OCHTA, OCHFA, OCHSA and OCH2B CameraCubeChip®. They are designed for a variety of medical endoscopes such as ophthalmoscopes, nasopharyngoscopes, bronchoscopes, angioscopes, nephroscopes, ureteroscopes, choledochoscopes, spinoscopes, duodenoscopes, gastroscopes, laparoscopes, proctoscopes, cystoscopes, hysteroscopes, utero-renoscopes, colonoscopes and arthroscopes.

“The medical industry is moving toward smaller, higher-resolution CMOS chip-on-tip endoscopes with LED illumination and ultra-thin cable modules that can reach deeper inside the body. In addition, medical endoscope manufacturers need the flexibility to customize their designs for specific endoscopy procedures,” said Thomas Xu, senior medical product marketing manager, OMNIVISION. “As the medical industry’s leading image sensor provider, we are addressing our customers’ need for a turnkey imaging solution through our OVMed® family of cable modules and image signal processors. The compact, ultra-thin, customizable cable modules are medical-grade tested and ready for integration—reducing design and testing time and simplifying the supply chain.

OVMed® cable modules provide high image quality with minimal artifacts for the transmission of captured images from the endoscope’s distal tip down the endoscope shaft to the proximal end. They are optimized for small module size, thin diameter, flexibility, mechanical robustness and cost. Additionally, the cable modules provide the necessary EMC/EMI shielding in accordance with IEC 60601 requirements, allowing the cables to withstand high energy discharges during multimodal medical imaging procedures, while preventing interference with other medical devices.

OMNIVISION can customize cable modules based on customer requirements, depending on the camera, cable type, end connectors, LED illumination and distal tip structure geometry. OMNIVISION has the advantage of high-volume production, which enables it to provide a cost-effective solution for customers. In addition, its standardized catalog products help customers achieve faster product development turnaround and quicker time to market.

OMNIVISION’s OVMed® cable modules are medical-grade, trusted components that undergo comprehensive certification, qualification and testing, including operation tests, stress tests, and testing for banned substances, EMI/EMC, sterilization, biocompatibility, workmanship and waterproofing. All the cable modules are manufactured in ISO 13485-certified facilities. This increases the likelihood and speed of FDA certification for medical endoscope manufacturers, while providing healthcare professionals and patients with a high level of confidence in the endoscope device.

The OCHTA10, OCHFA10, OCHFA20, OCHSA10 and OCH2B10 cable modules and evaluation kits are available now. For more information, contact your OMNIVISION sales representative: www.ovt.com/contact-sales.
