Tessenderlo-Ham, Belgium, 22 September 2026 – Melexis, a global engineering leader in sensing and driving solutions, today announced the official opening of its new office in India. The move further strengthens Melexis’ local presence in one of its fastest-developing markets and will support growth opportunities in two-wheeler mobility, vehicle electrification, solar market and smart energy metering.
Melexis has been serving customers in India for over 15 years, mainly through distribution partners. Since then Melexis has enjoyed strong growth, with sales growing by more than 30% per annum over the last decade. The new office marks the next stage of this development, moving from a distribution-led presence to a dedicated local operation designed to bring Melexis closer to customers and application requirements in India.
Supporting India’s automotive growth and two-wheeler electrification
In the automotive segment, Melexis recorded a 30% year-over-year sales surge in the first half of 2026, representing 46% of local revenue. In parallel, the company is capturing expanding market opportunities in India’s high-volume two-wheeler sector, where electrification and electronic controls are accelerating.
This momentum is closely aligned with local market dynamics, as India represents one of the world’s largest volume opportunities for mobility electronics, particularly in two-wheelers. Around 22 million two-wheelers are produced in the country each year, creating strong demand for reliable, cost-effective electronic solutions. Since 2017, government requirements for electronic fuel injection in two-wheelers have increased the need for more advanced sensing, while the ambition to electrify 70% of two- and three-wheelers is creating further demand for current and position sensors and related technologies.
With the average cost of an Indian two-wheeler sitting just above €1,000, system cost remains critical, and Melexis’ sensors and motor drivers are designed to help manufacturers improve performance and integration while supporting the economics of high-volume mobility applications.
Addressing solar market & smart energy infrastructure
Melexis is also addressing India’s solar market and smart infrastructure market. A major shift is emerging in smart energy metering, with India planning to replace traditional energy meters with approximately 250 million smart meters. Melexis is directly targeting this segment with its 3D magnetic sensor designed to support magnetic anti-tampering in smart energy meters. By entering the market with a solution developed around current customer requirements in India, Melexis will address Indian manufacturers’ needs for performance, integration, and competitive pricing.

We are aiming for a 30% to 40% market share in key segments like energy meters.”
Investing In local talent and technical support
Recognizing that responsive, high-quality technical support is a key differentiator in the Indian market, Melexis is prioritizing engineering capability alongside commercial growth.
● The new facility: A new 340 m² office space will initially house a localized team specializing in motor drivers and sensors support.
● Team expansion: Melexis plans to hire 15 professionals over the next years.
● Talent ecosystem: Melexis will leverage India’s world-class technical talent pool, tapping into its renowned feeder universities for top-tier software, embedded systems, and IC design capabilities.
